The Buffet X challenges the inherent properties of wood, transforming its rigid structure into a surface that appears fluid, as if caught in suspended motion. With a central interplay of concealment and revelation, the work is a sculptural gesture frozen in time, inviting curiosity about what lies beyond its undulating doors. The act of opening becomes not just functional but an experience of unveiling, as if peering beyond a carefully composed surface
A clear nod to Lucio Fontana’s radical approach to form and materiality, Buffet X captures the expressive force of a single gesture—one that disrupts the expected and creates new spatial possibilities. Recope de Tilly echoes Fontana’s spirit of experimentation, using wood as a medium to capture movement, much like Fontana’s slashes transformed canvas into something sculptural that symbolized both destruction and creation. An opening into an infinite space beyond the work itself, the cabinet’s facade suggests an incision, a controlled rupture that transforms into something dynamic and unpredictable
Handcrafted in France, the work is a testament to fine craftsmanship and conceptual daring. Balancing precision with an organic sensibility, it embodies a tension between movement and stillness, structure and fluidity, concealment and exposure
