TOM BENSARI

Tom Bensari

BORN BIELAWA, POLAND, 1972

A POLISH DESIGNER AND MASTER CARPENTER, bensari breathes new life into the rich tradition of European cabinetry. Combining traditional craftsmanship with a singular imagination and his deep knowledge of modernist design, bensari’s pieces are renowned for their exquisite simplicity and functionality. His process begins and ends in the sacred space of the carpentry workshop. There, among traditional tools and the soothing scent of wood, bensari conceptualizes and builds durable, beautiful, and functional pieces of art

The beginning of bensari’s adventure with carpentry was personal — he started by creating furniture for his five children. He wanted them to be surrounded by beautiful objects from an early age. It is also a kind of his personal manifesto: for him, furniture is a testimony of passion, self-development, and striving for a fulfilled life. Bensari also believes that in times of widespread mechanization, returning to traditional methods is a cathartic experience

Following a successful career as an attorney, bensari founded his own studio after two decades of studying traditional carpentry. His work has been featured in design publications worldwide and has become a favorite of discerning design collectors

THE CHAMELEON COLLECTION

Inspired by the famed chameleon department store in BeNsari’s native Wrocław, Poland, this Studiotwentyseven exclusive collection pays homage to the early modernist masterpiece. Designed by legendary expressionist architect Erich Mendelsohn, the department store blended streamlined moderne elements of late art deco with the dynamic functionalism that would come to define European modernism. These elements have been ingeniously interpreted by roland Grabkowski for this collection of cabinetry that recalls the sleek refinement and glamorous warmth of the jazz age

with a sculptural sensibility, The chameleon collection translates the horizontal divisions and rounded bay windows of the store into beautiful, functional lines and organic curvature in these stunning furniture pieces. Fabricated from the finest oak, ash, and luscious American walnut cladding with brass, stone, and gold plated accents, the cabinets are an artistic dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design

Each piece is made to order by master artisans in bensari’s workshop to ensure the highest quality, durability and aesthetics, and are customizable in dimensions and finishes.

the chameleon collection is exclusively for studiotwentyseven
