FRANCK GENSER
Born Thionville, France, 1967
A French artist renowned for his polymathic practice, Genser has carried a passion for the peerless tradition of French decorative arts over an extraordinary three-decade career traveling the globe as an engineer, designer, and therapist. Genser’s process is rooted in the concept of Gestalt therapy, especially in the interaction between individuals and their environment through emotions, light, surfaces, materials, shapes, sounds, raw materials, and architecture. Drawing on these varied experiences as well as a love of art nouveau that began in childhood, genser has developed a vision and style that is sui generis, combining heritage with innovation, ecology with psychology, humanism with technology, and a global perspective with an intimate sense of home
This fearless and idiosyncratic approach allows genser to create work that is a singular amalgam of fine art and collectible furniture, celebrating form and function alike. Driven by a commitment to detail and perfection, Genser has collaborated with virtuosic artists and artisans to enhance his knowledge of craft. Inspired by Jean-Michel Franck and Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, Genser studied the traditional art of French cabinetmaking to understand the classic construction of furniture. Along with this exceptional level of craftsmanship, Genser incorporates the finest materials such as bronze, solid wood, parchment, shagreen, marble, alabaster, and vegetable lacquer into his creations, leveraging the most advanced technologies available
Fascinated by the essence of objects and all dimensions of their influence on the individual, Genser founded his atelier in Paris in 2015, assembling a neurodiverse team of about ten collaborators, including architects, engineers, and skilled artisans, capable of transforming bold ideas into tangible, high-quality creations
