Françoise Jeffrey
Born Enschede, The Netherlands, 1970
A Dutch artist, Jeffrey creates one-of-kind and limited edition sculptures in ceramic and bronze. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, her intuitive, hand-built sculptures, crafted through coil-building, embrace imperfection and transience. Through organic shapes, daring compositions, and a conscious avoidance of toxic glazes or patinas, her pieces reflect a personal journey toward reconnecting with her artistic intuition and a more authentic self
In 2020, Jeffrey began creating ceramic works as a way to slow down and process grief following her mother’s choice to end her life with dignity in the face of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The bold, intuitive quality of her works is a celebration of radical self care. Each sculpture pays homage to the fiercely courageous way her mother lived and invites each of us to connect with the strength in deeper, gentler, slower kinds of living
While the foundation of her practice remains hand-built ceramic sculptures, Jeffrey began working with bronze in 2024, allowing her to capture the purity of her process and the organic quality of her forms in a timeless medium. Unlike ceramics, bronze is unbreakable, allowing her to create works with enduring power and permanence while maintaining their vulnerable yet powerful essence
Jeffrey has rapidly gained an international following for her intuitive, slow-crafted works, bespeaking the vitality and urgency of her signature blend of authenticity, vulnerability, and strength. Her work has been featured at premiere galleries, exhibitions, and art and design publications throughout Europe. Select works are exclusively for Studiotwentyseven
