CHARLES HAGERMAN

Charles Hagerman

Born Pennsylvania, united states, 1984

Based in California, artist Charles Hagerman believes in the social significance of the objects that we choose to surround ourselves with and the dynamic relationship we share with our day-to-day environment. With over a decade of artisanal experimentation and a deep understanding of the energies of clients and spaces, Hagerman creates pieces that are characterized by functional design

The free-form sculptural pieces that comprise Hagerman’s exclusive collection for STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN are a bravura display of the designer’s maverick blend of European modernism and rugged Americana. Combining clean lines and minimalist principles with bold organic forms and breathtaking natural materials, these unique pieces bespeak the elegance of the natural world. Utterly refined yet exuding warmth, each extraordinary object is as functional as it is sculptural

Handcrafted by Hagerman in the United States, the collection revels in the beauty of the finest hardwoods. Hagerman conceives of himself as a medium between these noble materials and the finished piece, allowing the answers to reveal themselves in his free-form process. For Hagerman, the act of creation is one of adventure and discovery, in which the energetic mysteries of oak, walnut, and jacaranda guide him

Exclusively for STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN, each piece is one-of-a-kind and offer true american artistry

Snake Medicine

Created in the wake of immense upheaval, Snake Medicine is a sculptural embodiment of transformation, resilience, and renewal. Charles Hagerman’s artistic process—an evolving spiritual practice of surrender, flow, and dialogue between material and energy—is deeply reflected in this work

Hand sculpted in early 2025, the Year of the Wood Snake, the work draws inspiration from the profound symbolism of the Chinese zodiac. The Wood Snake—representing wisdom, patience, and change—sheds its skin in an eternal cycle of growth and renewal. This symbolism converges with Hagerman’s lived experience, shaped by the devastation of wildfires that ravaged his community. The destruction left in its wake offered an undeniable reckoning—one that calls for balance between darkness and light, destruction and creation, ultimately guiding us back to flow

Carved from Portuguese Expanded Cork—a material formed through the application of heat and pressure—the sculpture echoes themes of transformation and endurance. Hagerman employs sculptural extraction and refinement techniques to unearth the essence of Snake Medicine, working in deep energetic connection with the material

This work is an offering of snake medicine, inviting viewers to embrace change, find beauty in impermanence, and move through life with conscious intention
