Expanding upon his ongoing Horizontal Sculptures collection, V1 Sculpture extends cwiek’s exploration of architectural form, material tension, and minimalist restraint into a wall-mounted format. This work channels the visual and emotional resonance of quarry walls and mined terrains, sites where the earth’s strata are revealed through human incision

Defined by a commanding horizontal axis, the sculpture is interrupted by a deliberate central incision, a gesture that recalls the precision of a mechanical cut through stone. The inner surfaces exposed by this intervention bear a travertine-inspired texture, evoking the raw tactility of geological material in contrast with the smoother, refined exterior. This duality invites contemplation on what is hidden and revealed, inviting us to consider how excavation becomes both a literal and metaphoric act of uncovering

The form oscillates between the industrial and the organic. A gentle curvature lends the structure an unexpected lightness, softening the rigor of its angular planes. The resulting tension between weight and suspension, rigidity and flow, imbues the work with a sense of quiet dynamism between compression and release

A reflection on excavation and exposure, V1 Sculpture creates a dialogue between the quiet power of natural form and the indelible mark of human intervention

Marek Cwiek

Born Cieszyn, Poland, 1987

A Polish born artist, Cwiek crafts striking stoneware sculptures that combine clean geometric forms and supple organic shapes. Boldly traversing historical periods and aesthetic vocabularies, Cwiek is inspired by sources as varied as the dynamic and energetic gestures of abstract expressionism, the ingenuity and craft of modernist industrial design, and the utilitarian minimalism of soviet brutalism. These influences infuse his work with a thrilling sense of tension, in which the soft, emotional, and natural stands in counterpoint to the hard, intellectual, and urban

In creating his raw, monolithic sculptures, Cwiek employs a minimalist approach in both aesthetic and technique to reveal the innate qualities of his materials. working primarily in high-temperature clay, he develops his own finishes and glazes to ensure perfection in the textural life of each work. Showing the craftsmanship and imagination of a true artist, each sculpture is one-a-kind and is exclusive to STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN

Cwiek’s enthusiasm for historical modes and his belief that shape is story was informed by his study of the history of language at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. A self taught artist, he began sculpting and painting in 2005. Cwiek currently lives and works in Malaga, Spain
