STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN FOUNDERS NACHO POLO & ROBERT ONUSKA
Spanish gallerist Nacho Polo first made a splash with STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN in Miami in 2018, but as of last week the showcase of contemporary collectible design has a significant presence in New York City too. (A London outpost is forthcoming). Polo and his life and business partner Robert Onuska reimagined a 7,000-square-foot space that formerly housed Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s 66 restaurant in Tribeca’s historic Textile Building, designed in 1901 by Henry J. Hardenbergh
Appointment-only visitors are welcome to the flagship gallery, with natural light that pours through 16-foot-high windows, wide-plank oak floors, a chestnut door hand-carved in Beirut, and a sultry playlist curated by DJ Mia Moretti. Works on view, including Francesco Balzano’s sculptural desk flaunting black-olive-lacquered oak and Luca Stefano’s burnished brass and opaline glass ceiling lamp, mingle with pieces from Polo and Onuska’s personal art collection
