Designed by sister-led multidisciplinary firm Saccal Design House, the collection recalls contemporary architecture native to Portugal. The sister duo behind the eponymous Lebanon and Kuwait-based interior design and architecture firm Saccal Design House, Nour and Maysa Saccal, unveiled the brand-new Hygge Collection earlier this year
The new chairs note inspiration from the contemporary and Romanesque architecture of Portugal, namely from the arches and columns that were translated into the design of the pieces
‘I personally visited Portugal for creative inspiration and with the help of my architectural background, I started to research and understand how they used to integrate a Romanesque past into different contemporary styles,’ says Nour. Maysa adds, ‘We always look for inspiration around us, whether it be the environment around us, our city Beirut, or our childhood memories’
Aptly named after the Danish translation of comfort and cosiness, the Hygge Collection comprises dining chairs, lounge chairs, armchairs and stools, with the neutral colour palette recalling the beauty of nature
Solid Travertino Navona, a natural whitish stone, has been used for the legs, coupled gracefully with neutral, fine-textured Boucle fabric sourced from luxury French design house La Maison Pierre Frey
‘We were also inspired by the Portuguese rock formations and curves, not only knowing we wanted to do something around it, but also something monolithic,’ says Nour
‘After coming up with the design and completing our research, we stumbled upon the concept of Hygge, which assimilated with the natural elements of the pieces, subsequently exhaling comfort’
