BIOGRAPHY

Jérôme Bugara

BORN Lyon, FRANCE, 1970

A French designer, Bugara is renowned for his rigor, commitment to timelessness, and an instantly recognizable contemporary style that explores the poetic dialogue between sculpture, furniture and the storied tradition of French decorative arts

Through Jérôme Bugara Éditions, he creates sculptural furniture defined by sensual curves, refined proportions and a deeply tactile approach to materials. His works synthesize heritage and innovation, offering elegance grounded in simplicity, precision, and emotional resonance. Many of Bugara’s works bear the names of members of his family, underscoring the deeply personal narrative behind each

With an exacting attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship, Bugara is intimately involved in the entire creative process, from initial concept to final realization. Working with master artisans to craft materials such as marble, bronze, plaster, rare woods and exceptional textiles, Bugara’s designs become objects of extraordinary sensuality and sculpture, intimacy and timelessness. His collaborations celebrate and reinvent traditional European craftsmanship, including with bronzier Rémy Garnier, stucco artist Riccardo Magnano, the iron and glass manufacturer Schaffner, and the lacemakers of Calais Caudry

A graduate of the École Boulle, Bugara began his career as a project manager for leading figures in interior architecture, including Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Tristan Auer, Elizabeth de Portzamparc, and Gulla Jonsdottir before founding his interior design practice in 2015 and his furniture atelier in 2022. In 2026, his Fleur rug entered the permanent collections of the Mobilier national, marking a significant institutional recognition of his work and its place within the ongoing history of French decorative arts

Amélia

A sculptural blend of grace, strength, and uncompromising comfort, the Amélia chair by Jérôme Bugara draws upon the boundless sea, azure sky, and infinite horizon of the Mediterranean coast. The splendor of the dreamy landscape of Monaco inspired the Amelia chair’s curvilinear silhouette, which balances sensuous elegance with structural integrity. The form, refined yet understated, invites us into the intimate, enveloping nature of a refuge, where time suspends, like a warm summer evening with those we love

The chair’s contours invite repose, offering a deep, welcoming seat that prioritizes comfort without compromising visual refinement. Its subtle curves and proportions exude a quiet sophistication, free from ostentation, while its impeccable craftsmanship speaks to Bugara’s commitment to creating objects of timeless beauty. Handcrafted in France and upholstered in Fischbacher’s Bouclé Sauvage, the chair is grounded by a base offered in Green Alps marble, Fiori di Bosco marble, or White Corian resin. These material contrasts—plush bouclé against the sleek, monolithic surfaces of stone or resin—imbue the piece with a harmonious interplay of softness and strength

Exclusive and on view in Green Alps marble at STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN New York gallery, the Amelia chair is a sculptural expression of intimacy, kinship, and tranquility—an homage to living and sharing moments that define elegance and comfort
