Jean-Yves Lanvin
Born Paris, France, 1965
A French artist based in Milan, Lanvin creates limited-edition sculptural furniture with rare and exquisite minerals, jewelry-like finishes, and striking profiles. His visionary works sit at the intersection between art and design, characterized by a sculptural approach emphasizing asymmetrical and strong lines. His creations celebrate the rich history of European craftsmanship and contemporary innovation with fine metals, noble stones, and rare minerals
Sculptural yet functional, elegant yet robust, experimental yet rooted in history, his works explore the design tension between balance and imbalance, both in the construction and appearance of the work. He is drawn to the sense of anticipation engendered by irregularity, and the challenge of creating a work that is both elegant and wild, rough and sleek
Heir to the Lanvin family, he spent his childhood in a rarified world of with elegance, creativity and artistry. After working in finance for Lazard Frères in New York and Salomon Brothers in London, he embraced his passion for art and design, representing fine French design houses, through which he gained a deep knowledge of foundries, the casting process, and fine metalwork. Lanvin works closely with heritage artisans at his atelier in Tuscany to produce each of his unique works
