The Invisible Personage Armchair draws Dalí’s dream imagery into the physical realm, transforming absence into a sculptural and functional presence. Developed from Salvador Dalí’s painting Singularities (1935) and introduced by BD Barcelona in 2016, the armchair belongs to a series of works in which Dalí explored the idea of invisible figures: human presences defined not by bodies, but by the traces they leave behind
In the original painting, silhouettes and impressions are suggested through furniture and domestic objects, evoking a psychological landscape shaped by memory and the subconscious. The armchair translates this concept into three dimensions through artisanal craftsmanship. A human cast appears seated within the chair, its form implied rather than fully revealed, enclosed by a sheepskin-covered structure that frames the figure. A lamp rises above the headrest, reinforcing the anthropomorphic character of the piece, while a visible handprint rests against the armrest, anchoring the composition in a moment of suspended presence.
Both intimate and unsettling, the Invisible Personage Armchair merges comfort with Surrealist tension, allowing the invisible to occupy real space. Produced as a limited edition of 20 unique works, each underscores Dalí’s enduring ability to transform psychological inquiry into materially compelling design
