MAXIME BOUTILLIER

Maxime Boutillier

Born Bordeaux, France, 1989

A French designer and interior architect, Boutillier is a lover of pure and sculptural aesthetics. Guided by the notion that ‘creation is the art of foretelling one’s past, his contemporary designs are rooted in the rich history of French decorative arts. Carefully considering the intimate relationship between material and shape, Boutillier creates furniture singular in its elegant balance of history and the world to come. Uncompromising in his search for authenticity and excellence, Boutillier is noted for his dedication to noble materials and traditional French craftsmanship

After graduating from Penninghen in Paris, Boutillier worked with Joseph Dirand for seven years. He founded his own studio in 2020

MÉDUSE POUF

Inspired by the sense of play, swirl of tentacles, and kinetic impulse we see in the octopus and the jellyfish, the Octo Collection explores what it means to bring animalistic passion, marine mystery, and organic forms into elevated and sculptural furniture design

Each piece is rooted in a playful sense of repetition—the refined curvature and spindly exuberance of the legs provide a delicate counterpoint to the luxuriously plush, cloud-like seat. The base of tentacled legs has been carefully designed and engineered to create an airy effect and a sensation of lightness, a kind of carefree floating as if atop the gentlest ocean waves. Meticulously handcrafted, the legs are constructed of painted steel or natural wood, which stand in gorgeous contrast to the ultra-soft textile of the seat and back of each piece

Playful and sophisticated, futuristic and nostalgic, organic and urbane, seating from the Octo Collection makes a stunning and subtle complement to any home
