MAXIME BOUTILLIER

Maxime Boutillier

Born Bordeaux, France, 1989

A French designer and interior architect, Boutillier is a lover of pure and sculptural aesthetics. Guided by the notion that ‘creation is the art of foretelling one’s past, his contemporary designs are rooted in the rich history of French decorative arts. Carefully considering the intimate relationship between material and shape, Boutillier creates furniture singular in its elegant balance of history and the world to come. Uncompromising in his search for authenticity and excellence, Boutillier is noted for his dedication to noble materials and traditional French craftsmanship

After graduating from Penninghen in Paris, Boutillier worked with Joseph Dirand for seven years. He founded his own studio in 2020

Bergerie

A sculptural seating series, Boutillier’s Bergerie Collection pays homage to the celebrated work of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, particularly their iconic Moutons, which redefined the boundaries between sculpture and functionality. First introduced in the mid-1960s, the Moutons embodied that unbounded approach: surreal yet inviting, they transformed the sheep—a seemingly mundane and pastoral figure—into a playful and poetic sculptural presence

With this collection, Boutillier abstracts and reinterprets the essence of those 20th-century icons with his signature streamlined and contemporary vision. Playing with scale and perspective, Boutillier crafts each work from black brushed solid oak in chunky, ultra-clean lines and ample cushions in simple, rounded geometries. Finished in a Nobilis wool bouclé distinguished by its pronounced irregularities and accentuated textures, each work becomes a tactile dreamscape that recalls the comfort, nostalgia, and rusticity of the Lalannes’ sheep yet exudes a refreshing minimalism

Handcrafted in france, each work is numbered edition, shaped and assembled with precision by heritage artisans. With its sculptural contours, at once robust and minimalist, the Bergerie collection celebrates the rich artistic legacy of transforming the exuberance of the animal world into refined yet playful works of art
