Mezzo is an invitation to reflection, its size and structure making it equally suited to use as an office chair. A warm orange velvet seat, soft and enveloping, forms a cocoon that isolates it from the outside world, and yet, thanks to a swivel base, it can be turned slightly to open up its perspectives and reconnect with its surroundings. The result is an armchair whose ergonomics blend harmoniously with the elegance of its forms

Handcrafted in France by Maxime d’Angeac in collaboration with the Jouffre Atelier, Mezzo finds its place within Contrepoint’s ongoing study in sculptural precision, a body of work where geometry turns weightless and comfort becomes a quiet space for introspection

Maxime D’Angeac

Born in Gers, France, 1962

French architect and designer, D’Angeac built his career across stage design, luxury retail, technical architecture, and refined private commissions, guided throughout by an obsession with the Italian Renaissance, Palladian architecture, and the perfect volumetry of palaces stripped of artifice. His fascination with ancient books and architectural treatises runs through every project he undertakes

D’Angeac approaches each commission with an emphasis on the plan, to which he adds the work of light and an exacting attention to detail, refusing any decorative demonstration in favor of spaces that feel lived in rather than staged. He manages every project from A to Z, from the first drawing to the acquisition of art, taking risks while always reassuring his clients. His practice moves between combat and romance in equal measure — the discipline to resolve every specification and whim, the romanticism to preserve the artistic side of the dream. This same duality defines him outside the studio: a second dan black belt in Krav Maga who trains daily in MMA. Whether designing a luxury private residence or a highly technical operating room for the American Hospital of Paris, he approaches every project with unyielding precision

Trained at the Beaux-Arts and a member of the French Architects’ Association, D’Angeac began his career creating scenography with Hilton McConnico for Daum and Hermès. He opened his own agency in 1992, leading major projects over the three decades that followed. Since 2021, he has served as Creative Director for the Orient Express, conceiving the return of the brand’s legendary train carriages alongside the interiors of the Orient Express Corinthian, the largest sailing yacht in the world
