The Orsetto and Orso collections emerge from the hazy space between beloved childhood memories and delightful dreams. Half-remembered and half-imagined, familiar and strange, Martin Massé’s beguiling works offer comfort and nostalgia alongside imagination and play. They seem almost animate, fantastical, gentle creatures that invite us into a soothing domestic landscape, a refuge from the outside world. Like a child’s imaginary friend, the works encourage playful narratives, inviting us to imagine their inner lives and invent stories about their origins
In Orsetto and Orso, furniture ceases to be a simple object of daily use. It becomes a companion for living, an inhabitant of the home endowed with its own character. Each work recalls worlds in which objects possess a soul, where spirits take form within matter, reminiscent of the creatures found in Japanese animated cinema. The cute and the comforting coexist with a gentle strangeness. These forms welcome us, yet seem to exist beyond us. In them, we glimpse a parallel universe that invites wonder, irreverence, mysticism, and naïveté. It is an invitation to be children again, to imagine again, to forget what is impossible
Rounded silhouettes, generous proportions, and tactile surfaces create an immediate sense of familiarity, as though these forms had always been nearby. The seating appears gently shaped by hand, recalling the reassuring presence of plush companions, quiet, still, yet alive with an inner world. Upholstered in bouclé fabric by Dedar, the surfaces carry the warmth of an ancestral touch, something felt before it is fully understood
The stone tables, crafted in travertine or marble, stand on a constellation of legs, multiplying their points of contact with the ground. They settle into space with ease, anchoring themselves gently, as if seeking belonging rather than dominance. Their stability feels organic, almost animal. They do not impose themselves. They wait. Around them gather rounded cushions and supple forms, creating a calm choreography of softness and weight
Handcrafted in France, the Orsetto and Orso collections are issued in a limited edition of twelve pieces, each numbered, signed, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The upholstered elements are crafted by Atelier Jouffre, while the stone components are made by the master stonecutters of Ateliers Saint-Jacques
Poised between furniture and creature, between design and narrative, Orsetto and Orso propose another way of inhabiting space, rooted in closeness, imagination, and shared presence. These are forms that do not demand attention, but quietly keep us company: companions to live alongside, to grow familiar with, and to befriend over time
