The SUMATRA Collection is a series of low tables defined by a precise relationship between metal and stone, drawing on the logic of jewelry setting. Each work is conceived as a structure that holds and protects its surface, where the tabletop is not placed upon the frame but contained within it

The load-bearing structure, produced in cast bronze or aluminum, forms a continuous perimeter with a recessed channel that receives the marble inset. This detail recalls the bezel setting used in fine jewelry, where a precious stone is encased within metal for both protection and emphasis. Here, that logic is translated into furniture at an architectural scale, giving the stone a sense of enclosure and presence

The pairing of materials reinforces this relationship. Cast bronze is often combined with Botticino Classico marble, while aluminum frames are matched with green marble, creating a dialogue between tonal warmth and mineral depth. The contrast is direct and legible, allowing each material to retain its identity while contributing to a unified composition

The forms themselves move between square geometries and more extended, irregular silhouettes. These asymmetries introduce a quiet sense of movement, recalling the simple, intuitive shapes of prehistoric artifacts whose clarity feels unexpectedly contemporary. the works remain grounded in a clear structural logic, where proportion and alignment are carefully controlled

Handcrafted in Italy and produced in limited edition, the works of the SUMATRA Collection emphasize material precision and adaptability, with metal and stone locked into a precise and enduring equilibrium

BIOGRAPHY

Simone Fanciullacci

Born Genova, Italy, 1982

A Milanese designer, Fanciullacci considers his practice to be artistic research on THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FORM AND SPACE. THE AIM BEHIND THIS QUEST IS TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VOLUMES THAT GIVE LIFE TO A FORM, THE RHYTHM THAT CHARACTERIZES THEM, AND THE sense of BALANCE or DISEQUILIBRIUM THAT THEY EVOKE. His extraordinary sculptural works EMERGe FROM an EXPLORATory process OF HANDS-ON experimentation IN SCULPTURE, COLLAGE, DRAWING, and technical innovation. In This AESTHETIC AND POETIC INVESTIGATION, Fanciullacci finds FREEdom in playing WITH DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AND MATERIALS, eventually giving LIFE TO his UNIQUE WORKS AND OBJECTS

Fanciullacci produces his singular works in CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH the finest ITALIAN CRAFTSMEN. Because of his long lasting collaborative relationships with several local artisans, Fanciullacci is able to explore a range of ancient and innovative techniques alike, along with the possibilities of exquisite materials, such as bronze, aluminum, marble, stone and solid wood. each work is fully customizable and is crafted WITH THE AIM OF LASTING FOR generations, MAKing THE ACT OF COLLECTING A SUSTAINABLE CULTURAL STATEMENT

After receiving a degree in product design from the politecnico di milano, Fanciullacci launched his eponymous atelier in 2017. His work has been featured in premier design publications and has received numerous acknowledgements, including the IF Design Award, the Good Design Award, and an honorable mention for the XXII Compasso d’Oro Award. Since 2011, he has served on the design faculty at the politicnico di milano
