OLGA ENGEL
An artist based in France and Latvia, Engel creates work that combines luxury, minimalism, and functionality with a sense of character, powerful emotional undercurrents, and a touch of irony. Her practice is fueled by a desire to metamorphose ordinary objects into expressive works of art by giving them new, unexpected functions. For engel, beauty and harmony in art can only manifest if there is a strong, sensory, emotional underpinning. Her work, therefore, is intentionally and unequivocally personal, born from her experiences, emotions, and memories, inviting us to recall intimate moments in our own lives
Engel collaborates with master artisans in both france and latvia to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship in her designs. She is a graduate of the Moscow Textile Academy and the Moscow design school, and continued her training at KLC School of Design in London, where she worked closely with British designer Mark Humphrey. her work, found in private collections across Europe and USA, has been featured at premiere design exhibitions including salone Milano, design miami, salon ART + Design New York, pad Paris, and Pad Geneva

WHO ARE YOU FUR
Exclusively for studiotwentyseven, Engel’s Who Are You series explores the nuances of human perception and interaction. with a dash of irony, engel contemplates the hasty judgments we make when we first encounter one another. the three chairs beckon viewers to ponder the essence of identity through their distinct personas. crafted from the same elemental components, the chairs appear identical at first glance, but upon closer inspection, their idiosyncratic personalities emerge
a sense of openness and warmth emanates from “Who Are You I”. With inviting curves and a welcoming stance, it embodies a friendly demeanor, inviting us to ease and conversation. “Who Are You II” exudes an air of fervor and unrestrained emotion. Its dynamic silhouette suggests an enthusiastic vibrancy, evoking a sense of excitement and unconstrained passion. Finally, ”Who Are You III” exudes an aura of tranquility and composure. Its poised structure and understated elegance convey a sense of calm restraint, inviting contemplation and introspection
