The Cavalo collection emerged from an extraordinary collaboration between designer Jessica Gersten and artist Jason Koharik. The two discovered a shared sensibility grounded in a mutual devotion to material intelligence, craftsmanship, the evocative power of form, along with a love for narrative, fashion, luxury, and poetry. Those shared enthusiasms imbue the collection with an elegant vernacular that resists categorization and offers us emotional, sculptural lighting works that seem charged with mystery and rich with their own imagined histories

At its core, Cavalo is a meditation on materiality and meaning. Solid antique brass establishes a sense of weight and permanence, its patina suggesting age, ritual, and continuity. Hand-sculpted alabaster introduces a luminous counterpoint, soft and tactile, filtering light with a quiet, almost devotional restraint. Threaded through these elements is the fine silken weft of horse locs, an unexpected yet deliberate gesture that brings movement, sensuality, and a subtle sense of mythology

The collection is at once restrained and expressive, poised and assertive. Its silhouettes recall the elongated grace of haute couture while maintaining the grounded authority of classical architecture. The exquisite sense of tension — between softness and solidity, ornament and rigor, intimacy and monumentality — creates works that seem to exist outside of time. That tension invites us to see the Cavalo collection as both a relic of a lost world and a dream of a world yet to come

Biography

JESSICA GERSTEN

Born Maine, USA, 1970

An American interior designer, Gersten launched her eponymous studio in 2008 to nurture a long-standing vision of creating a full lifestyle experience. Working with color and texture, proportion and form, her work combines understated luxury, emotional narrative, and bold originality. Gersten’s transition from fashion to interiors was an organic realization of her artistic journey and allowed her to apply principles of design across disciplines to create works of unique elegance and ingenuity

With an earthy yet contemporary aesthetic and a focus on multi-sensorial experience, Gersten utilizes neutral palettes, a variety of textures, complementary materials with sculptural silhouettes, and timeless detail. The result is spaces and collectible works that comprise a cohesive, continuous narrative of harmony and grace with a dash of whimsy and irony

With her inaugural collection of furniture, Gersten has applied her wealth of knowledge of fashion, art, and interiors to create singular works of collectible design. Her first collection, Lusitano, celebrates nature’s beauty and sculptural form with handcrafted, sustainable pieces made by skilled artisans in Northern Portugal. The collection offers a rare blend of beauty, sustainability, and personalization

Before founding her studio, Gersten spent 15 years in the fashion industry, working for world-renowned brands such as Ralph LaurenGiorgio Armani and Kenneth Cole. Gersten has rapidly become one of the most celebrated innovators in the interior and collectible design space, with projects gracing the pages of AD FranceAD Italia, and AD Mexico, among other premier art and design publications
