Maxime Boutillier
Born Bordeaux, France, 1989
A French designer and interior architect, Boutillier is a lover of pure and sculptural aesthetics. Guided by the notion that ‘creation is the art of foretelling one’s past, his contemporary designs are rooted in the rich history of French decorative arts. Carefully considering the intimate relationship between material and shape, Boutillier creates furniture singular in its elegant balance of history and the world to come. Uncompromising in his search for authenticity and excellence, Boutillier is noted for his dedication to noble materials and traditional French craftsmanship
After graduating from Penninghen in Paris, Boutillier worked for Joseph Dirand for seven years. He founded his own studio in 2020

Exclusively for STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN, the Ouranos Collection by Maxime Boutillier explores the tension between mass and lightness, permanence and impermanence in a series of sculptural works that appear solid yet hold an ephemeral, celestial glow. Named after the primordial sky deity of Greek mythology, Ouranos evokes a sense of vastness and tranquility
Boutillier draws inspiration from early twentieth-century Art Deco and Modernist principles, particularly in the geometric “C” or double “C” shape that defines each work. The collection distills these influences into a composition of purity and restraint, where geometric clarity of structure is softened by the organic translucency of alabaster
With luminous depth and tactile richness, the honed alabaster shade diffuses light with a quiet radiance that feels at once solid and ethereal. Select works feature a matte black aluminum structure that provides a counterpoint to the alabaster’s organic qualities while reinforcing the collection’s architectural sensibility
