Giopato & Coombes is a lighting design studio based in Treviso, Italy. Founded by the eponymous professional duo and real-life couple. For them, design means a connection between heart and mind. The conceive of their luminaires as surprising, ineffable, multi-sensorial objects that can engender moments of magic. They believe that light in living spaces should awaken our dreams, crystalizing time if only for a moment. Each of their projects is designed to trigger a hidden sense of wonder. Their works create spaces that arouse an emotional, personal impact. They call it the Supernatural Daydream

The pair’s designs place value both on cultural traditions and on research into innovative solutions. They design “in layers”, merging the excellence of Venetian artisanal manufacturing with the most advanced light engines. They combine heritage materials like Murano glass, brass, and marble with cutting edge materials and techniques, such as kevlar, aeronautical grade stainless steel and 3D printing. Their passion for artisanship and obsession with details drive them to create celestial sculptures that transcend space and time

After years of designing for specialized companies and gaining high-level experience, in 2014 they launched their first independent collection. Their works have won the prestigious Italian “Young & Design” award, and have been featured in various exhibitions and published in print media and magazines worldwide. In 2006 they were selected by Patricia Urquiola for the Promosedia award

Giopato graduated first from the Politecnico di Milano in Industrial Design, and then continued her studies with a degree in Architecture in Venice. After an internship in the office of Makio Hasuike, she began working with Patricia Urquiola, until the opening of their studio. Coombes graduated in Industrial Design at Brunel University in London. After moving to Milan he worked for George Sowden, and then for Sebastian Bergne, gaining invaluable experience in the field
