The Metropolis Sconce by Jan Garncarek translates the sculptural language of the Metropolis series into a more intimate architectural gesture. Mounted on the wall, the work shapes light with restraint and intention, casting dramatic shadows that give depth and rhythm to its surroundings
The design continues Garncarek’s exploration of shield-like forms and industrial machine geometry, where rounded, spun elements emerge from flat planes with quiet authority. Light emanates from within the brass body, reflecting across the plate and sphere to produce a warm, contained glow that feels both protective and ceremonial
Entirely handcrafted in Poland from solid brass, the sconce is rooted in Garncarek’s fascination with metallurgy and the transformation of flat, malleable material into structured, spherical form. Through traditional techniques such as metal spinning, brass gains strength, density, and architectural clarity. This process-driven approach gives the object its gravity, allowing material intelligence to define both form and atmosphere
The Metropolis Sconce is available in a range of finishes that retain its essential character: a quietly powerful object shaped by force and refinement where material, light, and shadow converge
