Gaudí’s own hand served as the mould for a remarkable collection of metalwork fittings conceived in the early 20th century, offering an intimate connection to his design process. Closely involved in every aspect of his architectural projects, Gaudí designed door handles, knobs, and fittings as essential components of the spaces they inhabited, ensuring that even the smallest points of contact carried expressive intent
This collection comprises eight exact reproductions of original fittings created for Casa Milà, Casa Calvet, and Casa Batlló. To develop their forms, Gaudí pressed and pierced clay directly with his hands and fingers, leaving tactile impressions that were then translated into three-dimensional objects. These impressions were subsequently cast in solid brass and finished with a polished surface, preserving the immediacy of the artist’s touch
The resulting handles conform naturally to the human grip, producing shapes that are both ergonomic and sculptural—forms that appear almost to breathe within their brass bodies. The collection includes the Milà No. 1, Batlló No. 2, Milà No. 3, Milà No. 4, Batlló Butterfly, Batlló Butterfly Knob, Batlló Door Handle, as well as the Calvet Peep-hole and Calvet Door Handle
Each work is engraved with Gaudí’s signature and is reproduced by BD Barcelona Design in collaboration with architect David Ferrer, ensuring exceptional fidelity to the originals. Together, these fittings underscore Gaudí’s belief that architecture is experienced through the body, transforming everyday gestures into moments of sculptural and tactile engagement
