VOYAGERS

The Voyagers series by Hanna Heino captures the enigmatic presence of figures emerging from the wilderness of northern Lapland. Handcrafted in Finland over a meditative ten-month process, these unique works reflect Heino’s immersion in the remote landscapes and ecosystems of the Arctic, translating her experiences into sculptural forms that evoke both the familiar and the otherworldly

By drawing on her time in the wilderness, Heino imbues Voyagers with an aura of introspection and quiet mystery. These sculptures are not merely representations of nature but are also meditations on the human connection to the environment, encouraging us to reflect on the delicate balance between the seen and the unseen, the known and the imagined

Each work is meticulously handbuilt from stoneware and porcelain, showcasing Heino’s intuitive dialogue with her materials. She employs glazes and engobes to enhance the surface texture and depth of the sculptures, creating layers of complexity that invite close observation. The tactile quality of the works, combined with subtle shifts in tone and finish, underscores their organic inspiration while introducing an ethereal dimension. The finishes oscillate between matte and glossy, soft and rugged, amplifying the duality of their natural and unfamiliar qualities
