CHIARA BERTA

Chiara Berta

Born Parma, Italy, 1975

AN ItALIAN DECORATIVE OBJECT DESIGNER, BERTA crafts expressive and evocative pieces in ceramic and other materials that feel both current and nostalgic. Constantly seeking new ways or working with material to find greater and purer freedom of expression, she has developed idiosyncratic techniques to create objects that are unique in their beauty and emotional resonance. Focusing on shapes and silhouettes, she aims at enhancing the singular, poetic character of the irregularities of a handmade piece. By combining heritage Italian artisanship and classic themes with her contemporary vision, Berta brings an ancient craft into the twenty-first century with a style entirely her own

Trained in set design, Chiara Berta immersed herself in the world of ceramics by chance while working as a decorator in a small workshop. In 1999, she established her own ceramic workshop to continue exploring the medium and art form. Her work has been featured at the Milan Trienniale, the Gualdo Tadino Ceramic Biennale, Paratissima Torino, and Corso Como Milan

Ricostruzione Collection

Meaning reconstruction, Berta’s Ricostruzione Collection was born in 2022 out of the artist’s need to pick up the pieces and rebuild following personal and global upheaval. Taking deconstructed vases, berta reassembled them with ceramic and iron wire, resulting in starkly beautiful and haunting objects that bespeak loss and resilience. Berta created the ceramic tiles using antique plaster casts with intricate decorative motifs, which she wove, little by little, into the wire skeletons, compounding the ghostly, dreamlike quality of the collection. In both process and design, the Ricostruzione Collection creates spectacular beauty out of what seems lost, broken, and uncertain

Handcrafted in italy by berta, each piece is one of a kind and is made from the finest italian earthenware
