The Bias collection invites a reconsideration of perception. Rooted in the discipline of geometry yet guided by intuition, Crespin explores how form can shift beneath the gaze and how the simplest displacement can transform balance into tension, and symmetry into dialogue. The title itself, Bias, refers both to the oblique line that cuts across geometric order and to the partiality of human sight, always framing, always interpreting

Each work in the series begins with the purity of the rectangular block, only to disturb it. Segments of stone are subtly displaced along diagonal axes, producing fractures that are not ruptures but recalibrations. These shifts, sometimes imperceptible at first glance, reveal themselves through movement: as the viewer circles each work, new alignments emerge, and familiar planes dissolve into unexpected rhythms

Carved from limestone or Carrara marble, the collection balances precision with tactility. The stone’s pale surface absorbs and diffuses light, softening the strict geometry with a natural warmth. Each intersection of volume and void becomes a study in perception, inviting us to question the stability of what we see

Handcrafted in Italy by master artisans, Bias exemplifies Crespin’s fascination with the subtle disruptions that redefine visual logic. In these works, geometry becomes mutable, and monumental stone becomes a medium for uncertainty and play. Bias does not seek to deceive the eye, but to awaken it, transforming the act of looking into an act of discovery

Raphael Crespin

Born Paris, France, 1978

Raphael Crespin is a French architect and designer based in Hong Kong

His approach is often experimental at the intersection of design, art, and architecture. Raphael is particularly interested in exploring the creative potential of emergent digital tools and their ability to address new ways of thinking design and architecture narratives

Prior to establishing his practice, Raphael worked with various offices in Asia and Europe. As a Postdoc Researcher at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, he participated in the Grand Challenge Program for Sustainable Built Environment in association with MIT. One of his most relevant experiences was certainly with dECOi Architects, an architectural firm known for its radical approach where Raphael actively contributed to the development of advanced design strategies for numerous award-winning projects
